Just in the last days, I have been contacted by multiple individuals about strange occurrences in their schools. One described sudden training on using an AED in schools and how to deal with cardiac arrest in children. Another, more disturbingly, talked about a large number of children at the high school they work at having POTS episodes and
Someone just replied to me on my Facebook page that the AED training is apparently now required statewide after the Damar Hamlin incident. I'm tracking that down, see if I can find that order.
We received a notification last Thursday of a medical lockdown. We have never received anything like this in all my years having kids in this district. I’m not even exactly sure what they deem a medical lockdown need is. (North Union Richwood OH)
Reddit is a good source for candid anecdotes about Cov-related issues. Most of the people don't connect what's happening with the causes but that also means that they aren't editing what they're telling. There are forums specifically for teachers; you can also google AskReddit questions by theme.
This is indirectly related to your inquiry about schools -- how NFL is planning a coalition of major sports to "prevent" cardiac incidents at the high school level...
My husband has been a baseball/basketball coach for years now. There is a video and quiz that you have to take regarding cardiac arrest to be able to coach. This has been going on for years. This is through CYO and also through NWOABL. CYO had a meeting with the coaches showing them the AED and where it is located. However, most if not all, recreational baseball parks DO NOT have an AED nearby that I know of. High school sports usually have a trainer at all games but I don't know if they carry an AED.
I work in a public middle school and every year we have training on using an AED, but nothing new and sudden with training- just every fall.
Thank you!
Just out of curiosity, roughly what size school district and urban or rural?
Very small rural district. We've only had to use the AED once in our building about 4 years ago for a teacher who was having a heart attack.

I think it was required before then.
I'm getting much more feedback on my FB page. It's sounding like the AED has been required for a long time, but I guess some schools were lax on it.
Not that I know of. But I will definitely be sure to find out now.

A 'medical lockdown'? What is that? Can you show me that notification (erasing any identifying info?)
Yes I have a screen shot of it just not sure how to attach it. I covered up identifying info
If you reply to the email that this came in, I receive those...
